The 2500 is powered by a powerful 6.4-liter V-8 that is offered as the standard powertrain. This engine produces 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. The engine comes mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. But other than that, RAM also offers an optional 6.7-liter Cummins® Turbocharged inline-six-cylinder Diesel-powered engine that produces 370 horsepower and a monstrous 850 pound-feet of torque. The diesel engine has two transmission options to choose from – a six-speed automatic or an eight-speed automatic. All the 2500 models have rear-wheel-drive as standard while the four-wheel-drive system is available as an option. The rugged and performance-oriented Power Wagon trim gets full-time 4WD as standard. In terms of towing and payload capacities, the gasoline-powered 2500 can tow up to 17,540 pounds and has a payload capacity of 4,010 pounds while the diesel engine can tow up to 20,000 pounds and has a payload capacity of 3,160 pounds.
The 2022 RAM 2500 is available in six trims, namely Tradesman®, Big Horn®, Laramie®, Power Wagon®, Limited Longhorn™, and Limited.
